Most people don't realise this, but you can drink water to lose weight! Most people do not drink enough water, so their bodies store water in fear of not getting enough. This creates extra weight. However, if you drink enough water, the body will no longer hold onto the excess water, since it knows it will get more. Also, when you drink water to lose weight, you also help the body flush out toxins, hydrate the skin, and carry nutrients to the cells!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Water
  • Water bottle
  1. Step 1

Know how much water you need to drink. The average person needs around 8 glasses of 8 ounces of water. However, there are various factors determining on how much water you need: weight, gender, how much you exercise, climate, and health problems. You can use the water intake calculator in the Resources section to help you.

  2. Step 2

Eat a healthy diet. Most foods you eat contain water, but if you eat a healthy enough diet, then you don't have to drink as much water to lose weight. Fruits is a good source of water, especially watermellon.

  3. Step 3

Always have a water bottle near you. This will help you tremendously in your goal to drink water to lose weight. Often people do get thirsty, but they're too lazy to get up and drink some water. So if you have a big nice cold water bottle, this will save you the effort. I usually fill up my water bottle before I go to bed and put it in the refrigerator, so it'll be cold the next day.

  4. Step 4

Drink water at set times. Like drink water the moment you get up, go to work, morning break, etc. This will help you keep track of how much water you drink.

  5. Step 5

Drink water while you are eating a snack or meal. This will you make eat less, since you will feel more full.

  6. Step 6

For some, it's incredibly difficult to drink water to lose weight, if they do not like the taste of water. So try drinking diluted apple or cranberry juice, putting lemon/lime/cucumber slices in water, add mint leaves to water, or drink flavored water.

  7. Step 7

Drink water after you go to the bathroom to replenish.

  8. Step 8

After strenuous work, drink water to replenish.

  9. Step 9

To drink water to lose weight effectively, you should try to avoid drinking too much soda, alcohol, and coffee. If you find yourself craving for soda or something sweet, drink at least a glass of water before drinking the soda. This will at least make you feel more full, and thus, less likely to drink the soda.

  10. Step 10

Have a friend join your goal to drink water to lose weight. Take bets. Make it a game.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't reuse commericial water bottles. The water will absorb the chemicals in the bottle
  • Don't drink too much water!
  • At first, you will probably find yourself visiting the bathroom often. This is normal. Your body is flushing all the excess water you've been storing for years. Eventually, this will stop when your body realizes it will have a continual supply of water.

on 6/22/2009 I agree with Quickstar. Water is the fluid of life itself. We first lived in water in the sack in our mother's womb and we cannot survive without it outside the womb. So....important! 5*'s
