How to Stop Vericose Veins in Men

Varicose veins are soft bulging and twisted veins that are visible through the skin. Sometimes they appear in a cluster of tiny veins known as spider veins, which are simply a minor form of varicose veins. Causes include a genetic predisposition, high blood pressure, lack of exercise, long periods of standing or sitting, smoking and obesity. Though varicose veins are more common in women, they can affect men as well. Treatments are the same for both men and women. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Wear compression stockings to stop varicose veins. These stockings are prescribed by your doctor and must be worn every day. They work by squeezing the bulging veins and stopping the upward flow of blood. The stockings more closely resemble the knee-socks some men wear with business suits, and won't look abnormal or draw any unwanted attention to your legs.

Try sclerotherapy to stop varicose veins in men. This involves injecting a chemical into the veins to scar them from the inside out. Eventually, the veins are absorbed into the body and are no longer visible.

    • 3

Get laser treatment for your varicose veins. This treatment involves sending laser energy through a tiny fiber that is inserted into the vein. The laser destroys the diseased part of the vein, which is then absorbed into the body.

    • 4

Try ablation to get rid of the pesky veins. A tiny catheter is placed inside the vein, heating it from within and destroying the tissue.

    • 5

Finally, have your physician perform vein stripping to get rid of the varicose vein. In this procedure, your physician makes small incisions in the groin and calf. The veins are then disconnected and tied to the saphenous vein, which is removed from the leg with small hooks.

Tips & Warnings

  • Talk to your physician about which course of treatment is best for your particular condition.

  • Don't let varicose veins go untreated. They can worsen and even lead to deep vein thrombosis.
