Instructions

  1. Creating the Body and Head

    • 1

Measure the dog from its neck to its tail bone as well as the width of its body around, including the shoulder blades. This will need to be the size of your dog sweater pattern. Find a dog sweater pattern on Fleece Dog Sweater Patterns (see References).

    • 2

Use gray felt in order to create your pattern. Be sure to follow all instructions to create the perfect costume for your dog. Sew the sweater together.

    • 3

Add eyes to the hood of the dog sweater (google eyes from the local fabric store work fine) with a hot glue gun and allow to dry.

    • 4

Attach a small white pom-pom or a rolled-up fuzzy white sock to the back of the costume using a hot glue gun or by sewing it together for the tail.

    Creating the Ears

    • 5

Print out a bunny ear template from DLTK Kids (see References). Be sure that you are printing on the black and white template and not the colored template.

    • 6

Cut the templates out of the paper using scissors. You should cut out the inside of the ear (the pink area) as well as the outside. There should be four separate pieces.

    • 7

Attach the smaller parts of the ears to the pink felt with a pin. Attach the larger parts to the gray felt with a pin. Cut out the pieces of felt around the templates.

    • 8

Place the four felt pieces on top of a sheet of wax paper.

    • 9

Brush fabric stiffener on both sides of all four felt pieces. Allow them to dry for about five hours.

    • 10

Attach the pink centers of the ears to the gray felt ears using a hot glue gun. Allow to dry.

    • 11

Cut a small slit in the bottom of the gray part of the ear and apply hot glue to the bottom of the left slit. Press the bottom of the right slit to the glue until it is dry. This will allow the ears to be more rounded and produce a more realistic effect.

    • 12

Attach the ears together to a gray felt circle using hot glue. Attach the elastic band to the bottom of the gray felt circle using the glue gun and allow to dry.
