How to Recycle Glass for Cash

Recycling glass is a simple process and beneficial to our environment. If you have a lot of glass to recycle you may be able to earn a decent amount of money by donating your glass to your local recycling center. Even if you don't make much money, you'll have done something helpful in your community.

Instructions

  1. How to Recycle Glass for Cash

    • 1

Check with your state's glass and bottle deposit laws to check if your state even gives money for recycled glass (see Resources). When doing this you can also find out about the policies and regulations of what type of glass and bottles are accepted.

    • 2

Contact your local recycling center (see Resources). Find out what time you can bring your glass in to be exchanged for money, and check to see how much you receive per unit of glass.

    • 3

Rinse your glass bottles or containers thoroughly and make sure they are dried. You don't want any excess liquid in your bottles.

    • 4

Remove any glass that is broken or has a mixed, "not clear" color. Exclude any mirrors, windows, glassware, and light bulbs.

    • 5

Store all of the glass you've readied to recycle for cash in a sturdy plastic container, if possible. Don't store your glass in a plastic bag or box where the glass could easily be broken when you take it to be recycled.

    • 6

Go to the main return and deposit office of your local recycling center and make your exchange. Your return in change or cash may not be much, but you've made a difference by recycling your glass.
