Cold sores commonly cure on their own within 10 days. There are no ways to diminish cold sores immediately, though there are a few ways to make cold sores heal quicker. This is done by creating an undesirable environment for the cold sore to live, causing the sore to retreat.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Foods With High Lysine Protein Content
  • Hydrogen Peroxide
  • Garlic Supplement
  • Calcium Absorbent Vitamin C
  1. Step 1

Replace the arginine protein in your cells with lysine protein. Cold sores thrive off a protein called arginine. They use arginine to duplicate themselves, which causes a cold sore breakout. Eat foods high in lysine protein to limit the amount of arginine in your cells. Some foods high in lysine are cheese, milk and yogurt. Foods high in arginine, such as nuts, grains and chocolate should be avoided.

  2. Step 2

Refrain from eating acidic foods. Cold sores need an acidic environment to live. Limiting your acidic intake will most likely cut your healing time in half. Don't eat tomatoes, citrus fruits, carbonated beverages and food containing vinegar.

  3. Step 3

Clean your cold sores daily with hydrogen peroxide. Use a clean Q-tip to apply peroxide directly to the cold sore. A cold sore is technically a wound that can grow bacteria.

  4. Step 4

Boost your immune system. This allows your body to properly fight off cold sores as well as prevent future outbreaks. Take a garlic supplement, which acts as a natural antibiotic. In addition, take calcium absorbent vitamin C, which is not acidic. Follow the dosage instructions on the back of each vitamin bottle. It is also a good idea to consult your physician before treating yourself.

Tips & Warnings
  • If bouts of cold sores persist, it is best to contact your physician immediately.
