Listening to music with your iPod when you travel in your car can be a breeze when you have a cassette adapter. However, cassette players have lost their popularity, so new cars are no longer equipped with them. Enter the iTrip, a device, made by Griffin Technology, which attaches to your iPod and transmits music to your car speakers through the radio.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Check your iPod to see if you will need one of two spacers to dock to the iTrip. If you have a case for your iPod, a spacer is not needed.

  2. Step 2

Place the spacer over the top of the iTrip, then snap the combined unit into the bottom of your iPod.

  3. Step 3

Turn on your iPod, then turn on your radio and tune it to a frequency or channel that you hear only static on. The best channel has static on frequencies above and below it. For example, the best channel has static on 95.7, and also has static on 95.6 and 95.8 frequencies.

  4. Step 4

Tune the iTrip channel to match the channel on the radio, then press and hold the plus (+) and (-) buttons simultaneously until the numbers flash. To save the channel, press and hold the same buttons for two seconds.

  5. Step 5

Select LXI for stereo or DXI for mono listening. The stereo setting is best for listening to music. The mono is best for podcasts, audio books, talk radio, and places where it is hard to find an ideal channel.

Tips & Warnings
  • To select one frequency at a time on the iTrip, press and release the plus (+) or minus (-) buttons. To scroll rapidly through frequencies press and hold either button. Purchase a USB car charger adapter for your iTrip. That way you can charge your iPod while you use it. The mini-USB cable that came with your iTrip plugs into the adapter, and the adapter plugs into the cigarette lighter unit in your car.
