Make your own cleaning solution. Combine two tablespoons of baking soda and two tablespoons of ordinary table salt in a mixing bowl. Add a cup of water and stir until you have a paste. Apply a thin layer of the paste to stained areas of your shower with a soft-bristled toothbrush. Alternatively, you can use a mild dish soap and a scrubber sponge.

    • 2

Turn on your shower and rinse off any remaining paste or soap. Then saturate a paper towel with white vinegar and use it to wipe down the entire shower, including the floor, the walls, the curtain or doors, the faucet and the drain. If the first paper towel gets soiled, replace it with a new one. Repeat as needed. This should remove even minor stains you hadn't noticed before.

    • 3

Rinse the shower again to remove the vinegar. Use a cotton cloth soaked in lukewarm water to wipe away any spots of vinegar or paste you could not reach with the shower head.

    • 4

Dry your shower with a microfiber cloth. This will prevent lint buildup and fingerprints. Check to see if the shower is clean. If you missed any spots, repeat Steps 1 to 3. You don't have to wash the entire shower again, only the stains you missed.

    • 5

Prevent future mildew spots by letting your shower air dry after each use. If you have shower doors, close them and clean the water off with a towel or squeegee. Then open the doors so that the inside of the shower can dry. If you have a shower curtain, close it. That way water doesn't build up in the creases. Air can still circulate on the sides and over top of the shower bar.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can use car wax on the walls of your shower to make the water bead so you don't have to worry so much about buildup. Just be aware that your shower will smell like a car for at least a couple days.

  • Turn on your bathroom's fan or open the window so your bathroom doesn't smell of cleaning product.
