How to Design a College Ring

Graduation from college is a significant event, marking the successful achievement and status of earning a college degree. To celebrate this achievement, many people decide to customize and purchase a college ring. College rings can be specifically designed to suit your college major, and can display your accomplishments.

Instructions

1. Go to the Jostens website (See Resources). Jostens allows you to custom design a college ring to suit your major and minor. Once you are on the main page of the website, place your mouse over the link at the top of the page called "Rings & Jewelry." A drop down list will appear. Click on the selection called "College."

2. Select the link to the left of the screen entitled "Shop College Rings." There will be an image of college rings next to the link. Once the new page loads, you will be asked to fill in the name and location of the college you attended. This will enable Jostens to place the university or college name into your ring. When the new page loads, you will see the selections for your particular college.

3. Browse the ring choices on the page for your college, and click on the ring you prefer. A new page will load that will display the ring close-up. If the ring design suits you, click on the link next to the design entitled "Design It" to customize the ring's sides.

4. Choose the type of metal you would like your college ring to be. You can select gold, platinum, silver and lustrium, which is a type of gold alloy. The final price of the ring will vary depending on which type of metal you select. Once you choose the metal type, scroll to the bottom of the screen to select the finish of the metal. Then, click on the "Next" button.

5. Browse the different stone types for the top of the ring. There are 16 different stones to choose from, including each of the 12 birthstones. Once you have made your selection, click on the "Next" button.

6. Click on the type of cut for the stone. There are four different cut selections, including Premier, Sunburst, India and Quadra. When you have made your selection, click on the "Next" button.

7. Enter in your personal information, including your name and year of graduation, and select the type of band texture you prefer. Scroll to the bottom of the screen and select the images that you would like to be on the side of the ring. There are hundreds of designs to choose from, encompassing every major and minor available at the university or college level. When you are finished, click on the button called "Complete."

8. Review the list of choices you selected, and if everything appears as you want it click on the "Add to Cart" button. You will be taken through the checkout procedure, where you can enter in your shipping and payment information. Your new college ring will be shipped to you in the time frame you select during checkout.
