How to Record Streaming Audio

Saving a copy of your favorite audio streams is a simple, yet rewarding process. With a recorded copy of an audio stream, you don't need an Internet connection to hear your favorite audio. And with the right software, you can record and edit high quality streams.

      Download a copy of the GoldWave installer from a secure website. Run the installer, then launch the program from its desktop or task bar shortcut icon.

      Close the pop-up notification as GoldWave open. To the right of Goldwave's main menu will be a "Control/Settings" panel. Click on the "Properties" button--located to the right of the "Stop" button and below the "Pause" button.

      Click on the tab labeled "Volume," and then set the "Master" and "Stereo" volume to between 70 and 80 percent--place a check in box next to "Stereo Mix" to select it. Click the "OK" button at the bottom of the page to continue.

      Click on the "New" button back in GoldWave's main menu--it'll be located in the top left corner below the "File" heading. Set the length and quality of your file. Be sure to set your recording length around the length of the streaming recording.

      Press the record button in GoldWave's "Control" window, and then press play on your streaming audio source to capture the live feed. Save your completed recording by clicking on the "Save" button, located in the top left corner of GoldWave.

Tips & Warnings

  • Avoid skips in your recording. Let your streaming source fully buffer before attempting to capture it.

  • Always adhere to copyright in place on any streaming audio--don't use the audio stream illegally.
