1
Find out if there are any wells, septic systems, pipes, or cables where the burial is to take place. They should be buried deep enough to stay put but not in an area that could wreak havoc in the home.

2
Have a traditional burial of your pet. Include other family members that also enjoyed the company of the beloved pet. Writing a poem or eulogy about fun times shared is possible, if one would like to be formal. A flower or tree could even be planted in its memory.

Go to your local pet or hobby store to find a headstone. This can be made of plaster or granite, depending on your budget. Either way, a tribute to your pet, its name, date of birth, date of death, and any special message can be engraved onto a stone. Other items such as tags, plaques, and containers holding items associated with your pet can be purchased at the owner's discretion.

Include a picture of your pet on a headstone or you can simply hang one in a special place. You can get a frame at any retail or pet shop. It helps to have multiple photos to remind yourself of how special your pet was to you and your family.
