How to Make a Cross-Stitch Corner-Style Bookmark

Every reader needs a bookmark. A corner book mark fits over the top side of a page and is easier to keep track of than a slip of cardboard or paper. You can design your own cross-stitch pattern for a corner-style bookmark. These can be made for gifts and craft-sale items.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut the corner from a used envelope.

    • 2

Check to make sure that it is even.

    • 3

Try the corner piece on the page of a book to make sure the pattern is the size that you want to use.

    • 4

Slit the small side of the envelope piece and open it so it lies flat. This is your pattern.

    • 5

Place the envelope paper pattern against the Aida cloth and trace the large triangle onto it.

    • 6

      Cut the Aida triangle out.

    • 7

Fold the Aida triangle in half to match the form of the envelope-corner pattern.

    • 8

Flatten the triangle back out. Tape the border with masking tape to keep the cloth from fraying. Cross-stitch a pattern on the front only or on both the front and the back. You can fill the entire area in or cross-stitch a symbol, a flower or a monogram only. Use two strands of embroidery floss for a less-bulky piece.

    • 9

Fold the Aida triangle wrong side out and stitch the long sides together by hand. Turn right side out and your bookmark is complete.
