If a Word file has been corrupted, this means that the file is not operational because it has been exposed to something that has rendered it useless. However, a corrupted Word file can be recovered without too much work.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Repair MyWord Software
  1. Step 1

Download Repair MyWord. This software is free and is designed specifically to assist Microsoft Word users in recovering corrupted files.

  2. Step 2

Open Repair MyWord after the software has been downloaded. The software can be opened by clicking on the downloaded file or on the icon that appears on your desktop.

  3. Step 3

Click on the "Repair/Open" button, located at the top left of the screen. This screen is the WordRepair screen. Browse to the file where the corrected Word file is saved and open it.

  4. Step 4

Click on the "Save" button at the top of the screen to repair the corrupted file. The program will recreate the file as an .rtf file, which stands for rich-text format.

  5. Step 5

Navigate to the .rtf file on the computer and click on it to open it. The corrupted Word file has now been recovered.

Tips & Warnings
  • Open multiple corrupted documents to save a batch all at once.
  • After a file has been corrupted, it cannot be recovered to show all of its original formatting. This means that although you will get the text included on the original document, information such as images and graphs are lost.
