Troubleshoot Your Pool Polaris Cleaner and Fix Simple Problems You May Encounter

A Polaris brand pool cleaner is a commonplace addition in many pools. Interestingly, a surprising number of people know nothing about their Polaris and it when they have problems with it have no idea how to fix it. Instead of calling out a professional that will charge you a ridiculous amount of money for a service call, see if you can remedy your problem yourself first. Here are some tips and things you may not have known about your handy little Polaris.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Pool
  • Polaris system
  1. Step 1

If your Polaris or cleaner is moving around the pool and water is circulating through the system but it is not really picking up any debris, make sure the Polaris bag is on properly and if it is and water is indeed circulating well through the cleaner then it probably just needs to be slowed down or have the screen cleaned.

  2. Step 2

To slow the Polaris' speed. Locate the box or instruction packet that came with the Polaris. After shutting off the Polaris pump, take out the red or blue (could be a variety of colors) circular piece with a whole in the middle. The packet may contain 2 or 3 of these, and they fit in the hole in the wall where the Polaris hose plugs in. Put one piece in and screw the Polaris back in and turn it on. This piece will have slowed down the Polaris a bit, and if needed put the other piece in as well.

  3. Step 3

To clean the Polaris hose screen. Shut off the Polaris pump. Disconnect the hose and unscrew the little capsule with the screen inside. Run the screen under the sink or clean it out with a hose of any debris that may have collected here. This should be done about twice a month depending on the pool.

  4. Step 4

If your Polaris pump is sounding louder than usual, it may be either getting too old to do its job or there may be an obstruction in the line. Unplug the Polaris hose from the wall and see if the pump is still making a lot of noise. If not, then go along the hose and see if there is possibly a leak or obstruction. If this is not the case and the pump is still making noise there may be a problem in one of the lines or with the pump itself and you should call a professional to check it out.
