Get the Word Out
Get the Word Out

Be it your band's new album or single, a new movie you have made, your video game or an online store, getting the word out and is a required, and sometimes frustrating process. Here are some avenues for promoting your creation online.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Internet Access
  1. Step 1

If you don't already have a website that features your creation or at least information about it, set one up now. There are a variety of hosting services out there, and many will also allow you to reserve a suggestive domain name.

  2. Step 2

Submit your website to Google (see link area)

  3. Step 3

'Digg' your website (see link area)

  4. Step 4

Once you have a website, sign up for online forums (BBS) that focus on the same field as your project. Post about your project, taking care to not appear spammy. If allowed, set up your signature to include a link to your website, then reply to as many threads as possible.

  5. Step 5

If you have a Facebook and/or MySpace account with a sizable number of friends, it is worth posting a link there as well.

  6. Step 6

Sign up for a Twitter account, if not having one already. Make sure that you have a large number of followers before you tweet about your project. The easiest way to get followers is to follow other people. Tweet frequent updates about the status of your work.

  7. Step 7

Sign up for a YouTube account and post a video of your project, if applicable. Make sure you link back to your website in the video's description, and also to add your website as caption or watermark inside the video itself.

  8. Step 8

Sign up for a Metafilter account ($10 one time fee), and post about your creation in the 'Projects' area.
