People of all shapes and sizes want to borrow things. Here is a how to say no.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

You must listen to the request with an open mind.

  2. Step 2

Before even meeting with the borrower, practice the word "no" or "not at this time.
Stand infront of a mirror and say these words at least ten times.

  3. Step 3

Say no, and don't give excuses why you cannot let them borrow. You are going to hear some really sad facts, but if you feel in your heart, that they are not a good risk or you cannot afford their borrowing, you must say no.

  4. Step 4

If you can produce a compromise, you could try. In the case of money, perhaps you can afford less than the amount requested.

  5. Step 5

If you should say "yes" in a weak moment, set up a pay schedule to repay the debt. If it a vehicle, set up a time that you need it returned. Put their feet to the fire for repayment.

Tips & Warnings
  • You might feel guilty and have great remorse, but you cannot afford to lend beyond your means.
  • Consider the borrower. If that person is trustworthy and really needs the item, you might be able to compromise.
