Anyone who is disabled (physically or mentally) and unable to work is eligible to apply/receive Social Security disability benefits. If you are interested in applying for disability benefits follow the simple steps below to get started.

  1. Step 1

    *Applying Online*

    Applying for Social Security benefits online is a great idea. The online application process is quick, easy, and will save you the anguish of standing in long lines at the social security office. To do this simply log on to your states social security office and click on link for the online disability application. The application process is lengthy and requires information such as past doctor visits, the nature of your disability, etc. Once you have completed the online application you will be contacted by phone for an interview.

  2. Step 2

    *Applying In Person*

    To apply for Social Security disability benefits in person head down to your local social security office and submit an application. A case worker will go over your case with you and provide you will provide you with all of the information you need.

    Note: You will only be eligible to receive disability benefits if your condition is considered "severe" and you are expected to be unable to work for at least one year.

  3. Step 3

    *Hiring An Attorney*

    If you case is denied you may need to hire a disability attorney to help you win your case. Disability attorneys have an excellent success rate and have been said to be exponentially helpful in winning disability claims.

on 6/23/2009 I think it is sad, when you really do qualify for social security benefits but you're denied. Then you have to fight for your right. Just another remember that our system is not perfect.
