How to Use Enzyme Cleaners
Enzyme cleaners, also known as enzymatic cleaners, break down bacteria and actually "digest" organic dirt, proteins and mold. They are especially effective at getting rid of odors, including hard-to-clean smells like cat urine. For that reason, enzyme cleaners are sometimes sold as "pet formula" cleaners. Household enzyme cleaners are sold in liquid form, either as a concentrate or in a spray bottle. Look for them at pet stores, home and garden centers, pool centers and online.

1
Soak up any liquid, if necessary. If you're cleaning pet urine, for example, blot it with paper towels until the area is dry.
-
2
Spray the area with enzyme cleaner.
-
3
Allow the area to air dry. For pet stains on carpet or upholstery, it may take a few days for it to dry completely. If you're cleaning mold or mildew, scrub the area when wet, allow it to sit for five to 10 minutes, then rinse with water.

4
Check the area for odors or mold. If it's still detectable, treat the area again. Repeat as necessary.

Tips & Warnings
If you're cleaning a floor, choose a product designed for the type of flooring, whether wood, vinyl or carpet.
To clean clothes with enzyme cleaner, add it to the washer during the first agitation, then open the lid and let it soak overnight. Add detergent and resume the cycle after the soak.
Always follow the manufacturer's recommendations for your specific enzyme cleaning product.
