Dental hygiene is important, not only for maintaining a beautiful smile but for overall health as well. Colgate's line of PreviDent products help teeth fight existing decay while also preventing future decay. The PreviDent line includes the PreviDent 5000 Prescription Strength Toothpaste, PreviDent Brush-on Gel, and the PreviDent Dental Rinse. All of these prescription products contain four times the fluoride of over-the-counter toothpastes and rinses. Here are a few tips on how to start using PreviDent products.

Things You'll Need

  • PreviDent 5000 Prescription Strength Toothpaste, PreviDent Brush-on Gel or PreviDent Dental Rinse
  • Toothbrush or mouth tray

Talk to your dentist about your concerns and find out whether PreviDent is right for you. If you and your dentist decide you should use PreviDent, you will get a prescription for the proper product.

Purchase the product prescribed by your doctor: PreviDent 5000 Prescription Strength Toothpaste, PreviDent Brush-On Gel or PreviDent Dental Rinse. Use your product as prescribed.

Use PreviDent 5000 Prescription Strength Toothpaste twice daily, upon waking up and before going to bed. Apply toothpaste to a toothbrush, brush teeth for at least one minute, spit out all toothpaste.

Use PreviDent Brush-On Gel once daily, preferably before bedtime. Use after brushing and rinsing. Apply the gel in a thin strip directly to your teeth or to your mouth tray. Leave on for one minute and spit out all gel.

Use PreviDent Dental Rinse once a week, preferably before bedtime. Use about two teaspoonfuls after brushing your teeth and rinse your mouth thoroughly for one minute. Spit out all mouth rinse.

Tips & Warnings

  • PreviDent products should be used regularly, as prescribed, for the best effect.
  • PreviDent products are available by prescription only and are to be used only by the patient to whom it's prescribed. Swallowing PreviDent products can lead to nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. You should seek medical assistance if more than 2.3 milligrams of fluoride per pound of body weight is swallowed. PreviDent products should not be used by children under 6 unless prescribed by a dentist.
