Register multiple domain names for planned websites or future sales. The owner of a domain has the right to keep it for use for a lifetime. Domains are often registered for their possible selling price. There are some who research new businesses and try to register domains bearing their names with a dot-com suffix before the company gets around to building a website. Some domain names have been sold to corporations for enough money to pay for a house.

How to Register Multiple Domain Names

  1. Step 1

Write down ideas for naming websites. Create several variations and possibilities for each site considered, since so many names are already registered.

  2. Step 2

Choose a domain registrar or registry service to place your domains under. (See resources below.) Web masters often register with a chosen hosting company for convenience. Domain transfer is a common practice, so many choose to register domains with the service offering the best deal. Registrars offer competitive prices, hosting discounts and other perks to customers.

  3. Step 3

Check for availability of considered names. Visit your chosen domain registrar's website. Type domain names under consideration into the registry search box. Many registrar search functions show alternate choices for domain names that are already registered.

  4. Step 4

Buy unregistered names while you can. Claim any name you've considered and pay for it with a credit card or PayPal account as soon as you find it available. Domain names disappear quickly.

  5. Step 5

Register as many names as you care to. Owning a domain name does not obligate you to build a website. Many registrars charge less than $10 a year for each domain name.
