Adding glitter to your artwork makes the images sparkle and the colors come to life. You can easily make glittery images with regular craft glue combined with spray adhesive to keep the glitter in place. You can make attention grabbing posters, add glitter to your scrapbook pages or create artwork with subtle sparkles. Glitter comes in a variety of colors to enhance any type of image or craft project.

Things You'll Need:

  • Artwork Glitter White craft glue Spray adhesive Work tray
  1. Step 1

Trace the outline of your image with white craft glue. Hold the bottle like a pen with the tip down and apply just enough pressure to create a thin line of glue over the areas you wish to make glittery. Work in small sections so that the glue will not have time to dry before you add the glitter.

  2. Step 2

Sprinkle glitter on top of the glue lines. You can use your fingers, which can be quite messy, or simply sprinkle the glitter directly out of the container. Cover the glue lines completely, and then let the craft glue and glitter dry undisturbed.

  3. Step 3

Pick up your image and gently shake or tap it so the glitter that did not stick will fall from the surface. Work over a tray with a lip or paper that you can pick up so you can capture the loose glitter that does not stick to your image. Replace the loose glitter into the container.

  4. Step 4

Spray a light coat of spray adhesive over the glittery image to set the glitter in place. Let the spray adhesive dry completely before you move your glittery work of art.

Tips & Warnings
  • For a subtle glitter effect, mix a small amount of glitter in with your acrylics before painting and create an image that sparkles. Glitter paint will stick to your brush, so use an inexpensive brush that you can dispose of when you are finished.
  • Make sure the glue lines are completely dry before you lift and shake your image, otherwise the glue may run and you'll have glitter streaks on the face of your artwork.
