How to Configure Utorrent

UTorrent is a BitTorrent client program that is free to download. BitTorrent clients allow users to connect to peers and share data through .torrent files. After downloading and installing uTorrent, you might want to configure some settings in the program to help it run more efficiently.

Instructions

    • 1

      Open the uTorrent program.

    • 2

Click "Help," then click "Check for Updates." This will automatically update uTorrent to the newest version. Newer versions often have new features and greater compatibility.

    • 3

      Click on the "Options" menu.

    • 4

Uncheck the checked options in the drop-down menu to configure the user interface. By default, the uTorrent window will show a toolbar, detailed information box, status bar, category list, and icons on various tabs.

    • 5

Click "Options" then "Preferences." Advanced configuration can be done here. There are several tabs that can be used to configure different settings for uTorrent. For instance, you can can set language and privacy settings under the "General" tab, and advanced UI settings under the UI Settings tab.

    • 6

Configure options to optimize speed. Click the "Bandwidth" tab and change the global upload and download rate to closely reflect your Internet connection speed. You may want to set the upload rate a bit lower than your max upload speed to save more room for downloading. Don't set the upload speed too low, though, because uTorrent can be demanding. You may also want to reduce the number of global connections, connections per torrent, and uploads to increase performance. Click "Apply" whenever you make a change.
