How to Make My Exhaust Louder

If you've ever seen a racing movie or a modded car drive by, you definitely know the sound they are capable of making. Custom exhaust systems can cost thousands of dollars when you figure in an advanced air intake, dual exhausts and the like. But making your exhaust louder can be done easily with a few tools in your own garage.

  • Half-inch drill bit
  • Glass-pack muffler
  • Wrench set

  1. Drill Holes into your Current Muffler

      Tightlen the drill bit into the drill.

      Plug in the drill.

      Drill 15 to 20 evenly spaced holes into the base of the muffler.

    Replace your Muffler with a Glasspack

    • 4

      Go to your local auto repair store. Give them the year and make of your vehicle. Get the diameter of your muffler connector from the details you gave them.

      Buy a glasspack with the same diameter connector as the current muffler.

      Unscrew the two bolts from the vehicle frame holding the support strap under your muffler up. Unscrew the four bolts holding the muffler to the exhaust pipe from the engine.

      Place the glasspack where the muffler was and bolt it to the exhaust pipe from the engine with the four bolts.

    • 8

      Screw the two bolts back through the support strap into the vehicle frame in order to prevent the glasspack from sagging.
