Whether it's for a costume or just a kid's toy, a flail is the essential medieval weapon. A real working flail would be complicated and expensive to make and would be dangerous once it was finished. Here is a guide on how to make a costume or ornamental flail. However, just because it's made from cheap materials doesn't mean it has to look bad. This flail will look frighteningly authentic.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Medium sized styrofoam ball 1 sheet of paper Masking tape 2 feet of string Broomstick or PVC pipe 2 feet long Black spray paint Scissors
  1. Step 1

Using the masking tape, attach the string securely to the styrofoam ball. Wrap the string and masking tape around the entire diameter of the ball, if needed.

  2. Step 2

Cut out small paper circles and, using tape, form them into mini cones. Tape the cones all over the styrofoam ball, forming spikes.

  3. Step 3

Tape the other end of the string to one end of the broomstick or PVC pipe. Spray-paint the entire flail black.
