Choose whether you want to hardwire your rear speakers or use wireless RF. Wireless speakers are easier to install and reduce cable clutter, but a hardwired setup tends to provide better sound quality.

Label wires to ensure proper setup.

If you are wiring the speakers, use masking tape to label the positive and negative wires and to designate which speakers they will connect to. Begin with the right rear speaker and label the wire RS (right surround) on both ends. Decide where you want to place the speaker. Connect the wire to the speaker terminals. Run the wire along the baseboard to your television or receiver. Repeat for the left surround speaker. You can fish wires through your walls or use cable raceways to conceal the wires.

Wireless rear speaker setups use a wireless module that plugs into an electrical outlet at the rear of the room. This feature allows rear speakers to receive a signal and proper amplification without having to be connected directly to the receiver. The only wiring is between the module and the speakers.

To install wireless speakers, find the correct speaker and wireless module placement. Rear wireless modules are color coded, making connections simple. Connect wires to each speaker and run the wires along the baseboards to the wireless module. Plug the module into an electrical outlet and turn on your receiver.
