Hanging an exterior door on concrete means mounting the hinges to a concrete wall or a concrete foundation. You will need specialized tools and accessories to do the job right, but the materials are readily available at your local hardware or department store. Dealing with concrete and construction of any kind means safety must be taken into consideration first and foremost. Always wear all recommended safety gear and use common sense when attempting new procedures that you are not be familiar with. Work with a partner, if at all possible.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Ear plugs Dust mask Gloves Safety glasses Hammer drill 3/8-inch concrete drill bit 12 3/8-inch concrete screws (3 inches long)
  1. Step 1

Put on your safety gear: dust mask, ear plugs, gloves and safety glasses.

  2. Step 2

Mark the screw holes from the hinges with a pencil. Hold the door up against the concrete and flare out the hinges so they line up with the door parameters.

  3. Step 3

Drill the holes for the door with a concrete drill bit. Line up the tip of the drill at the first mark, and drill a hole to the depth of the bit. Repeat this procedure on every screw mark.

  4. Step 4

Replace your drill bit with a screwdriver bit that fits your screw holes. Depending on the type of screws, use a Phillips, square or hex head bit.

  5. Step 5

Hang the door. Starting from the top, hold the door up to match where the hinge holes are. Use your drill as a screwdriver to drive the concrete screw into the hole until it is secure. Continue drilling until all holes are filled with screws.
