Make a Rubberband

Rubber bands are useful at home and at the office. They keep papers in order, hold documents together and keep posters from unrolling. Rubber bands are even used as toys, whether it's a rubber-band ball or a rubber-band gun. You don't have to buy your rubber bands from the store. You can make your own at home out of mold rubber and vinegar.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Vinegar 2 shallow trays Pliatex mold rubber Coffee mug
  1. Step 1

Pour vinegar into a shallow tray until it is half full.

  2. Step 2

Fill a second shallow tray half full of Pliatex mold rubber.

  3. Step 3

Dip the top of a coffee mug into the vinegar until it has been submerged 1 1/2 cm, or slightly past a half inch.

  4. Step 4

Remove the coffee mug. Allow it to drip for a few seconds, and dip it in the Pliatex mold until it is submerged to the same depth of 1 1/2 cm.

  5. Step 5

Remove the coffee mug. Allow it to drip, and dip it into the vinegar for five seconds. Hold it at the same depth as before.

  6. Step 6

Remove the coffee mug and roll the rubber band off the cup.

  7. Step 7

Let the rubber band sit until it is dry. Make as many as needed.
