How to Block Internet History

The web browser that you use by default keeps track of each website you view and lists them chronologically under the menu of "Internet History." If you have security or privacy concerns and do not want other computer users to see your Internet history, you can delete your existing history entries and then block your browser from storing any further history information. The exact method for blocking Internet history is slightly different depending on which browser you use, but the process is similar whether you use Mozilla Firefox, Apple's Safari, or Microsoft's Internet Explorer.

Instructions

Mozilla Firefox

1. 

   Click on the "Tools" menu option located on the tool bar at the top of the Mozilla Firefox web browser. Scroll down through the drop-down menu that will appear and click on "Clear Private Data."

2. 

   Click on all of the check boxes in the new window that will pop-up. Click on the "Clear Private Data Now" button to remove your past Internet history.

3. 

   Return to the "Tools" menu and then click on the "Options" button. Navigate to the tab labeled as "Privacy."

4. Un-check the check boxes marked as "Keep My History," "Remember What I Enter in Forms and the Search Bar," and "Remember What I've Downloaded." Scroll down to the heading labeled as "Private Data."

5. Click on the check box marked as "Clear My History When I Close Firefox." Click on the "OK" button. Close Firefox and then re-open it to save the changes.

Internet Explorer

1. 

   Click on the "Tools" button at the top-right corner of the Internet Explorer browser. Scroll down to the "Delete Browsing History" button and click on it.

2. Click on the "Delete All" button located at the bottom of the new window that will pop-up. Click on the "Yes" button when a new box appears asking if you are sure you want to delete your browsing history.

3. Close the Browsing History window and click on the "Tools" button again. Select the "Internet Options" button. Navigate to the "General" tab.

4. Find the "Browsing History" heading and click on the "Settings" button underneath the heading. Scroll down to the heading labeled as "Days To Keep In History."

5. Delete the current number in the text box and replace it with the number "0." Click on "OK." Close down the Internet Explorer web browser and then open it again to save the changes.

Apple Safari

1. With Safari active, select the "History" menu at the top of the screen.

2. From the "History" pull-down menu, choose "Clear History."

3. Go to the "Safari" pull-down menu at the top of the page. Select "Private Browsing ..." from the menu.

4. A dialog box will appear explaining the "Private Browsing" feature. Select "OK."

Tips & Warnings

• If you use a search tool bar, such as Yahoo Search or Google Search, you may also have to delete the Internet history for those tools in addition to deleting the history directly through your web browser.
