How to Create a Banner Ad in Flash

Banner ads can help bring business to your growing site or company. Usually made in Illustrator or Photoshop, there's no reason why you can't make a banner ad in Adobe Flash. Using Flash gives you the opportunity to make it animated. With a few clicks of the mouse, you can have your own banner ad created in Flash with very little prior knowledge of the program.

Things You'll Need:

  • Adobe Flash

    Creating a Standard Banner Ad

  1. Step 1

    Open Adobe Flash.

  2. Step 2

    Navigate to the Properties window at the base of the program and set your stage size to 468 by 60 pixels, which is one of the most standard banner ad sizes, according to WebPencil.com, a banner ad design firm. See Resources below for other effective banner ad sizes.

  3. Step 3

    Import and place photos or a logo by navigating to "File," then "Import to Stage." Select your file.

  4. Step 4

    Add text by selecting the text tool (T) from the toolbar.

  5. Step 5

    Click on your stage and add information, such as your company's name and any other deals you may be offering at the moment.

  6. Step 6

    Save your file by navigating to "File," then "Export." Choose JPEG or GIF as your file type. Hit "Export."

  7. Creating an Animated Banner Ad

  8. Step 1

    Follow Steps 1 to 5 in the first section.

  9. Step 2

    Right-click on your timeline to create a second frame.

  10. Step 3

    Add the second part of your animation in this frame, and add about 5 or 6 frames to the end of each keyframe.

  11. Step 4

    Navigate to "File," then "Publish Settings." Select GIF from the Formats tab of the Publish Settings window.

  12. Step 5

    Navigate to the GIF tab and choose "Animated" as your GIF type. You can also choose whether you wish your animation to loop continuously or set a number of times for your loop here. Click "Publish" to finish your file.
