Healthy hair comes from the inside. Take a multivitamin and eat right. Hair is mostly made of protein, so be sure to eat include it your diet by eating eggs, lean beef, chicken and low-fat cottage cheese and milk. A healthy scalp needs the omega-3 fatty acids found in salmon, flaxseed and walnuts. Include foods rich in amino acids, B vitamins, B-6, biotin, inositol and folic acid. Your hair grows a set amount per month, typically 1/2 inch. Be sure to maximize that growth by protecting your hair. Brush and comb your hair gently and don't overdo it. Don't brush wet hair and avoid damaging ponytail holders -- opt for fabric-covered bands over elastic instead. And don't over-wash your hair. The natural oils in your hair protect it, so unless you have very oily hair, washing your hair every day may not be a good idea.
