Step 1
Plan ahead. If you have low blood sugar, you will need to eat frequently, at least every two hours. Frequent, small, high protein snacks are best, so make sure you have plenty of food around to maintain your blood sugar levels, and avoid hypoglycemia.
-
Step 2
Read the labels. Reactive hypoglycemia will respond badly to anything with sugar or refined carbohydrates, so avoid foods with ingredients like corn syrup, dextrose, or bleached flour.
-
Step 3
Learn to cook. It is difficult to manage hypoglycemia when eating prepared food, due to the presence of sugar in nearly everything. In order to create a low blood sugar diet, you will need to learn to prepare foods yourself.
-
Step 4
Get Fat. Fat in foods helps to keep you satisfied longer, and slows the absorption of sugar into the bloodstream. This allows you to maintain a stable blood sugar level, avoiding both highs and lows. Avocados, for example, are a great source of healthy dietary fats.
