There's nothing worse than having your beautiful fruit trees decimated by birds. Rabbits have been known to completely destroy flower and vegetable gardens. There are a variety of products on the market to deter pests from your garden. There are also a variety of poisons available. If you hate the idea of using harsh chemicals in your garden to chase away or kill pests, follow these steps to create a free pest deterrent.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • CDs
  • String
  • Stakes
  • Oil
  1. Step 1

Collect up old CDs. Scour the house for old movie and music CDs. Use outdated computer disks as well. The shinier the better, since the goal is to create a sense of movement in the garden.

  2. Step 2

Tie string in desired length to individual CDs or string them in row about a foot apart. Use a sturdy string or fishing wire.

  3. Step 3

Hang CDs from fruit bearing trees and bushes or anywhere you're having problems in your garden with wildlife. Make sure the CDs have room to spin in the wind as that will create more of a surprise factor to pests.

  4. Step 4

Take yellow CDs and attach them on the end of a wooden marker or stake. Cover CD with oil and stick in the ground next to the plant base to catch flies and other flying insects.

  5. Step 5

Watch the scavengers run away when confronted with the scary-looking objects in your garden.
