Fresh strawberries are delicious in so many ways, but the season is so short. Freeze strawberries to make them available year-round. While you can freeze strawberries by mashing them and adding sugar, you can also freeze fresh strawberries whole. By freezing strawberries whole, you can enjoy them for three to six months on your breakfast cereal, as a snack, in dessert or even on a salad with no sugar added. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • Colander
  • Paper towel
  • Freezer bags or containers
  • Knife or huller

Instructions

      Wash the strawberries in a colander by rinsing them in cool water. Pat them dry with a paper towel.

      Hull the strawberries with a small knife or huller. Discard any berries that are mushy to the touch.

      Place the strawberries on a cookie sheet in a single layer. Place them in the freezer until they are hard.

      Place the strawberries into clean freezer bags or containers when the strawberries are frozen. Label the containers with the date and contents. The strawberries will keep for three to six months in the freezer.

Tips & Warnings

  • Be sure to make your container "Whole Strawberries" and date it too.

  • Can be kept for 3 to 6 months in the freezer.

  • Be careful hulling strawberries with a knife. A strawberry huller is inexpensive and much safer.
