Step 1
eat on the patioEat breakfast, lunch, or dinner outside on the patio, in a park, or in the outdoor seating at a restaurant. Use the grill. Enjoy the warm sunshine, the green grass, and the singing birds.
*If it rains, have an indoor picnic: spread a blanket out on the floor, listen to some fun music, eat picnic foods, and play catch (careful!). -
Step 2
golfTake your father to his favorite outdoor activity, whether it be golfing, sailing, or mountain biking. If he wants to go alone or with the guys, let him; if he wants you to join him, do it-it's his day, after all!
*If it rains, then go indoor miniature golfing, go bowling, play a sport in an indoor court, or play his favorite sport on the Wii. -
Step 3
Hide Father's Day presents in the backyard and make clues for your father to follow to find them.
*If it rains, hide them indoors with summer-related clues, like by his golf clubs, behind a houseplant, or in the freezer by the ice cream. -
Step 4
Take your father shopping to pick out a new summer toy, such as a surfboard, camping supplies, or a grill.
-
Step 5
pick cherriesVisit a museum that interests your father, go to a fair, or pick fruit to make a smoothie or pie for your father.
-
Step 6
go to the beachHave fun with water: go to the beach, river, or lake; swim in the pool; have a water-balloon or squirt-gun fight; play in the sprinklers; go to a water park.
*If it rains, play tag or other games indoors in your swimsuits. If it's warm rain, then stay outside and splash in puddles. -
Step 7
Watch a summer movie and eat popcorn and candy. Turn off all the lights, get in some comfy clothes, and let your father pick the movie. (If you have the equipment, set up a projector and screen and watch the movie outside in the pool or on the trampoline, lawn, or driveway.)
-
Step 8
Camp out in the backyard and share favorite memories of your father.
*If it rains, set up a tent or build a fort in the living room.
