How to make apple dumplings

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2/3 cup shortening
  • 5 tablespoons cold water
  • 2 cups peeled chopped apples
  • 2 cups packed brown sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 cup butter, in chunks
  • vanilla ice cream
  1. Step 1

Love apple pie then you will love these apple dumplings. These are individual desserts. You will need a large bowl to start. You will combine the flour, salt, and crumble in your shortening until your mixture becomes crumbly. You will now gradually add in your 5 teaspoons of water the dough forms into a ball. While you are adding in the water move the dough around with a fork until the ball forms then stop adding water.

  2. Step 2

On a lightly floured surface roll out the dough into 12 inch by 18 inch rectangle. You will then cut this into six squares. Place 1/3 cup of chopped apples into the center of each square. You will brush the edges with cold water. Then fold the corners to the center and pinch together to seal. Place in a 13x9x2 baking dish and bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.

  3. Step 3

In a saucepan you will combine the brown sugar, one cup of water, and butter. Bring this to a boil. You must stir this mixture constantly. Remove from the heat and pour over your dumplings. You will now continue to cook the dumplings for 25 to 30 minutes until the apples are tender. Serve while the dumplings are warm and top with vanilla ice cream.
