Things You'll Need:
- patience
-
Step 1
The first thing you must do is know what starting hands to play in what position. If you are first to act after the flop you are in first position. Hands to play are AK AA KK QQ JJ 1010 and most baby pairs. nothing else. if you are 3rd or fourth to act you are in second position. hands to add are 10J KQ AQ and suited connectors. If you are fifth through seventh you are in late position you can add QJ KJ K10 and other mediocre hands... hands such as 3-4 gappers like 62, 37, and hands like that should NEVER be played unless you are in the big blind

Step 2
Online poker is very different from live poker. The main difference is the fact that you cannot get a solid read on your opponents. There might be 8-9 different personalities at the table at the same time which making complicated plays sometimes very difficult because unless you are playing in a higher stakes game you WILL get called most of the time when bluffing.
-
Step 3
To make the most out of your time at the table is to incorporate a straight-forward approach to the game. The main reason why you dont want to get fancy is that most everyone else that plays online poker is trying to do the SAME fancy moves against you which neutralizes any benefit unless you know they are doing it, but whenever the all in button is pushed all reads are over.. its all about instinct at that point and what your holding..Don't fall into this trap. Most online gamblers will push all in with nothing just to see you fold or to gamble pref lop with less then standard holdings...again dont fall into this trap
-
Step 4
Bad beats seem like they happen all the time..don't they? Online it is going to be more pronounced simply because of the number of hands that are played in a given session. In one online game or sit n go you will see on average 3x more hands then in a regular game hence...3 x more bad beats.. its all math. Aces will get cracked and flushed will get overturned by full houses...its trite but ..."That's Poker"
-
Step 5
In online games you must be a steward of math. you must not lose your patience..you must know one simple fact and mathematical assurance...THE CHANCES OF GETTING AA IS 2% OR 1 OUT OF 50 .. This goes for any pocket pair. AK IS SOMEWHERE AROUND 3-4%...knowing this and also the fact that most tournaments with 9 or more players will have 100+ hands dealt you will see most of these premium hands at least once. Don't waste all your chips chasing flush draws unless you have overs with it or if you are open ended and you are getting pot odds.. more on this later. ALl you will be doing is hurting yourself so when you do pick up these hands.. which you will (its math) you want to hand enough chips to make a tidy profit with...No its no assurance you will win but we are talking hard numbers and odds to win against any 2 random cards. With online poker... go with the numbers... reads can be too misleading and fancy plays are for the birds.. happy hunting
