How to Configure a LinkSys IP
When you set up a TCP/IP network, all the computers on the network are required to have an IP address. If any computer or device does not have an IP address, that computer or device will not be able to communicate on the network. Most networks will allow the IP address to be automatically configured so that you can connect devices without setting up the IPs manually. However, if you wish to set up your own IP address scheme, you can configure and determine the IP address of your Linksys router manually.

1
Connect and turn on your Linksys router and ensure that the router is connected to your computer. You must have your computer connected to the router with a network cable or you will not be able to configure the router. When you connect your computer and the router, be sure to use any plug on the router other than the "Uplink" plug.
-
2
Start your web browser. Communications to the Linksys router will be done through a web browser. It does not matter which browser you use.
-
-
3
Type "192.168.1.1" in the address bar of your web browser. This is the default IP address of the Linksys router. When you type this address, your browser will start communications with the Linksys router and the router will respond by loading up the configuration page in your web browser. This will also make a log-in screen appear on your computer.
-
4
Leave the user name blank and type "admin" in the password box. If you have previously changed the username and password for the Linksys router, use those credentials instead. Once you have entered the correct username and password, the page will load the main configuration menu for the Linksys router.
-
5
Click on the "Network Setup" tab at the top of the configuration window. This will load all the network-related information that can be changed.
-
6
Type your new IP address next to the words "Router IP." This will be the new IP address for the router.
-
7
Click the "Save Settings" button on the left side of the screen to save the IP address of your Linksys router.
