Fuel filter location on 1995 Ford Trucks differs according to the particular model. In-tank fuel filters are part of the fuel delivery system and need to be replaced along with the fuel pump. Here, we will deal with in-line fuel filters, which you can find on the chassis, under the vehicle. This fuel filter can be replaced by unplugging the fuel lines and plugging the new unit. Thus, this guide applies to most 1995 models and can help you install the new filter on your Ford Truck.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Wrench Shop rag Small screwdriver Floor jack and jack stand if necessary Ratchet and socket

    Relieve the Fuel System Pressure

  1. Step 1

Turn the ignition switch to the Off position.

  2. Step 2

Disconnect the ground, battery cable using a wrench.

  3. Step 3

Loosen the fuel filler cap to relieve the pressure form the fuel tank.

  4. Step 4

Locate the fuel pressure relief valve on the fuel line near the fuel rail on the engine compartment. The valve resembles an air valve on a bicycle tire.

  5. Step 5

Wrap a shop rag around the relief valve and depress the valve stem using a small screwdriver. Use the rag to catch the squirt of fuel.

  6. Remove the Fuel Filter

  7. Step 1

Locate the fuel filter under the vehicle. On most models, you will find the filter mounted on the frame rail, driver side of the truck and near the fuel tank. If necessary, raise the rear of the truck using a floor jack and support it on a jack stand.

  8. Step 2

Remove the filter-to-fuel line retainer clips from both ends of the fuel filter. Push the two legs of the plastic clip with your fingers. Then pull the clip at the back tab and off the fuel line fitting.

  9. Step 3

Pull the fuel lines off the fuel filter ends with your hand.

  10. Step 4

Unfasten the filter-bracket mounting bolts using a wrench or ratchet and socket.

  11. Step 5

Remove the fuel filter from the truck.

  12. Install the New Fuel Filter

  13. Step 1

Set the new fuel filter on the mounting bracket. Then fasten the bracket to the truck chassis using the wrench or ratchet and socket. Make sure the arrow on the fuel filter body points toward the engine.

  14. Step 2

Connect the fuel lines at both ends of the fuel filter by pushing the quick-connect fitting against the filter.

  15. Step 3

Install the new retainer clips that came with the new filter by snapping the clips through the fuel line fittings.

  16. Step 4

Lower the truck (if you had to raise it).

  17. Step 5

Connect the ground, battery cable using the wrench.

  18. Step 6

    Tighten the fuel filler cap.

  19. Step 7

Turn the ignition switch to Run and then to Off. Cycle the switch to Run and Off six times. Then check for fuel leaks at the fuel filter.

Tips & Warnings
  • On most 1995 Ford truck models, you will need to drive the vehicle at least 10 miles to let the computer relearn the adaptive strategy for better engine performance. This strategy is erased from the computer memory every time you disconnect the ground battery cable for more than 30 seconds. Consult your vehicle owner's manual if necessary.
