How to Remove the Google Updater Service

The Google Updater service, often a GoogleUpdate.exe file, is installed when you install a Google application such as Google Earth or Google Chrome. When you access certain websites or open your web browser, you may see a pop-up for the Google Updater. If you don't want to receive these updates, you can easily remove the service.

  • Go to Google, and click on the "Help" option at the bottom of the screen. Click on the "Google Help Page" option. Click on the option to "Browse More Help Centers."

  • Click on the "Google Pack Help" option under the "Make Your Computer Work Better" heading. Click on the "Removing the Updater" option under the "Managing the Updater" heading.

  • Click on the "Uninstalling the Updater" option. Click on the first option to "Uninstall from the Start Menu."

  • Follow the directions to uninstall the Google Updater. After you select the "Uninstall Google Updater" option, the update will be uninstalled. You now will have to restart your computer to complete the process.

  • Access your web browser, and try going to websites where the Google Updater would normally pop up. If you still see pop-ups, then not all of the programs in the Google Updater were uninstalled. Go back and complete the same process in Step 4. The Google Updater should be successfully uninstalled, but if you still are seeing updates, then search for the updater on your computer to locate if there are programs that weren't uninstalled for the updater.
