How to Use Restasis
Restatis is used to treat chronic dry eye. It can also treat an eye condition called keratoconjunctivitis sicca. The medication works by increasing the amount of tears you make. It is available by prescription only. Restatis is covered by many health insurance prescription plans in the United States.

Wash your hands. If you wear contacts, take them out. Turn the Restasis vial upside down several times to mix the medication. The eye drops should appear milky white. Open the vial. Avoid touching the end of the vial with your fingers.

Tilt your head back and look upward. Pull your bottom eyelid away from your eye. Apply one drop of Restasis into your eye. Do not let the vial touch your eye directly.

Look downward. Keep your eye closed for one to two minutes. Do not rub your eye. Try not to blink.

Repeat Steps 2 and 3 with your other eye. Wait at least 15 minutes before putting in contacts or other eye drops.

Discard any remaining Restasis that is in the vial. Do not store the open vial to use later.

Tips & Warnings
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you are able to. Do not double your dosage. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Keep your Restasis at room temperature, between 59 and 77 degrees Fahrenheit (15 to 25 degrees Celsius). Store in a dark dry place. Do not store in a bathroom. Talk with your doctor about medications you currently take before using Restasis. Do not start or stop taking Restasis, or change your dosage, without talking to your doctor or pharmacist first.
Restasis can be harmful if swallowed. Keep it out of the reach of pets and children. If you experience an allergic reaction, seek medical attention right away. Signs of an allergic reaction include rash, severe itching, swelling, dizziness, or trouble breathing. If you suspect an overdose and are a United States resident, call the national poison hotline at (800) 222-1222. The most common side effects include burning, stinging, redness, pain or itching of the eye. You may also experience blurred vision, discharge or the feeling that something is in your eye. Talk with your doctor of pharmacist if you experience these symptoms.
