Pull on the gloves and grasp the razor blade between the forefinger and your thumb. Make sure that you have a good grip, as the gloves can tend to make the blade slip.

Place the blade at a 15 degree angle with the window, and begin to scrape at the shoe polish gently. This will help remove the majority of the polish without scratching the windows, if done correctly. If you feel tension between the window and the blade, you are likely scratching the glass: Lessen the pressure with which you are pushing the blade.

Spray on the window cleaner and let sit for about two minutes. Make sure to cover the entire area, or you will have small bits of shoe polish that stay caked to the window and cannot be wiped off.

Wipe the window cleaner off the windows using the clean cloth or paper towels. You may need to repeat this a few times in order to remove all the small pieces of dried polish.

Shoe polish is easy to remove when it is wet. You can always wash the entire window with window cleaner, and then scrape while it is still wet. This will leave fewer spots of drt polish remaining on the window after the first cleaning. Ammonia-based cleaners will dissolve the majority of the shoe polish without scraping, and will wipe off easily.
You may also use a razor blade knife in order to scrape, as this is safer than using a simple razor blade. Always use caution when working with sharp edges and glass, as this can scratch the glass if used at the wrong angle or with too much force. If the shoe polish is applied inside of a window that is tinted using a stick-on film, then likely, the film must be removed and replaced. Try the window cleaner and vigorous rubbing.
