Start a Community Jewelry Making Club

If you or a group of your friends have a passion for jewelry making and enjoy creating unique designs for bracelets, necklaces and earrings, then consider starting a jewelry making club. By using some of the suggestions and resources below, you can develop a successful jewelry making club. All it will take is some motivation, creativity and a love for jewelry.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Plan the details of your club before advertising within the community. Decide on membership fees, meeting dates and what you would like to accomplish with your club. You will also need to decide where the club should meet. Club members can meet in your home if you have the space, a community building, or even a church. Type or write out the club plan. Create business cards for your club.

  2. Step 2

Contact your local newspapers and let them know of your plans to begin a community jewelry club. Include meeting times, what the club plans to do, any membership fees, and contact information. Post your information about your club online at Meet-Up.com where you can find people who may be interested in meeting others who enjoy creating jewelry too (see resources). Also visit local craft fairs and search for jewelry makers who might be interested in joining your club.

  3. Step 3

Create projects that members of the club can make during meetings. Ask members of the club to donate or bring different types and colors of beads so that you can use them for projects. Look through jewelry making books, magazines and jewelry websites for inspiration. Have members take turns bringing in small treats or light snacks such as sandwiches, chips and dips, or cookies. Also let everybody have a turn in creating a project for the group to do..

  4. Step 4

Create a club newsletter that will share meeting times, club news, member information and fun facts about jewelry making. Include instructions for a simple jewelry project such as a bracelet, a pair of earrings or a necklace. Send out newsletters to current club members and potential club members too.

  5. Step 5

Promote your club regularly. Let friends, family members, co-workers and craft businesses know that you are always looking for new members. New people bring can new ideas to the club and help keep things fresh.

Tips & Warnings
  • Have your club create a variety of bracelets, necklaces and earrings that can be sold for special causes or used for charity. Sell jewelry and give a portion of the earnings to food pantries, education funding, library funding, hospitals, churches or another cause members agree to support.
