    Collecting Unemployment Benefits in Oregon

  1. Step 1

You must first be unemployed or furloughed. Holding a full-time job while receiving unemployment benefits is against the law.

  2. Step 2

Go to the State of Oregon's website, which allows people to claim unemployment benefits online. You can file a new application, claim a week's worth of benefits, restart a claim, check the status of a claim, file address changes and apply for direct deposit.

  3. Step 3

If you want to file for unemployment benefits in person, the State of Oregon website also allows you to look up the closest unemployment office. After typing in your zip code, you'll be directed to the nearest branch.

  4. Step 4

If you are filing for unemployment benefits in person, visit your branch office. Before visiting your branch, make sure to have the following ready and available: social security number, work history (dates and places of employment and previous salaries) and a phone number where you can be reached during business hours.

  5. Step 5

Online at the State of Oregon website, you can estimate what your unemployment benefits will be. By entering total hours worked and total wages by calendar quarter, you'll get an idea of what you can expect from your unemployment benefits.

Tips & Warnings
  • The State of Oregon website also features a page with phone numbers for all unemployment department branches. Call these numbers for help and more information on where and how you can file a claim.
