How to Wrap Your Hand for Muay Thai

Muay Thai is a style of competitive martial art that incorporates hand and leg strikes. Because of the strain on the wrists and the impact on the knuckles, it is important to to wrap your hands before practicing or competing. Proper wrapping can save you a lot of pain later, but poor technique can be ineffective or cut off your circulation.

      Wrap the loop at the end of the hand wrap around your thumb. Spread your fingers wide.

      Wrap three or four times around your palm and knuckles.

      Wrap down around your wrist once. Stay at the top of the wrist and do not go down the forearm yet.

      Wrap back up around your knuckles and continue to alternate between wrist and knuckles and criss-crossing in both directions across the palm.

      Go around the wrist and the beginning of the forearm a few times when you are getting to the end of the wrap. Velcro it on the wrist.

Tips & Warnings

  • Keep the wrap taut but not so tight as to cause pain.

  • Loosen your wraps if your hands feel tingling or look pale.
