Bose speakers are a popular choice for many consumers looking for an easy-to-set-up speaker system for music or home theater. The speakers are small and blend with most decors, yet produce full-bodied sound that belies their diminutive footprint. Bose speakers feature specific connectors for hooking the speakers up. These connectors are attached to wiring that is included with the speaker system. If you need longer lengths of speaker wire or wish to use a thicker speaker wire for better signal transfer, you'll need a way to connect your new speaker wire to the Bose speakers. Fortunately, there's a simple way to do this.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 12-gauge speaker wire Wire cutters Soldering iron Rosin core solder Electrical tape
  1. Step 1

Cut the existing connectors off the speaker wire that was supplied with your Bose speakers. Leave about 1 to 2 inches of the old wire attached to the connectors.

  2. Step 2

Strip the insulation from the leads of the wire attached to the Bose connectors so that each lead has about 1/2 inch of bare wire exposed.

  3. Step 3

Strip the insulation from the ends of your new speaker wire so that about 1/2 inch of bare wire is exposed.

  4. Step 4

Twist together a bare speaker wire lead from the Bose speakers with a bare wire lead from the new speaker wire. Repeat with the other bare wire leads.

  5. Step 5

Place the hot soldering iron against the twisted wires. Allow the wire to heat, and then touch the solder to the wires so it flows into the joint. Remove the solder and soldering iron and let the joint cool.

  6. Step 6

Wrap the joint with electrical tape, and repeat as necessary for all the joints you've made. Plug the new wires into the speakers with the connectors.
