Fundraisers are a great way to raise money for various causes while providing donators with a fun social outlet. Golf fundraisers are one such example. Anyone who has attended a golf fundraiser understands how enjoyable the experience can be; however, the people who plan such fundraisers understand that there's more that goes into organizing the event than just a good time. The following steps outline how to organize a golf fundraiser.

    • 1

Assemble a group. Due to the various efforts needed to put on a golf fundraiser, it is important to organize a group of people who will assist in the duties involved. Often this committee consists of people who are interested in raising money for a specific cause. For instance, if the fundraiser will earn money for a local women's shelter, the committee might consist of people who run or contribute regularly to the shelter.

    • 2

Get an expert. If a member of the group is familiar with golf tournaments or golf fundraisers, this will be very beneficial. If no one in the group has golf expertise, however, a professional should be contacted. Regardless, a specialist can help plan the fundraiser and point the committee in the right direction in terms of contacting golf courses, scheduling the tournament and finding participants.

    • 3

Create a tournament plan. A framework should be created to make the fundraiser planning somewhat easier. First, the group should decide how long the golf tournament will be. Some golf fundraisers are simply one day and others run for two or three days. There also should be a tournament type, such as two players vs. multiple players, best ball, and so on. Other plans should include cost of the tournament, menu and banquet plans following the tournament, and any plans for additional fundraising such as a silent auction.

    • 4

Choose a location. Golf courses should be contacted to see if they are interested in hosting the fundraiser. Some courses may offer use of the course for free, while others will offer a discounted rate. If the course charges money, the fundraiser cost should take this fee into account.

    • 5

Find organizations to donate. Many companies may offer prizes or money to winners of the golf tournament as an extra incentive for them to participate. A group member should contact different companies and request donations or prizes. Many companies will do this in return for being mentioned as a sponsor of the fundraiser.

    • 6

Market the fundraiser. In order to find players, the fundraiser must be advertised. The committee does not have to target only people who are interested in the cause for which money is being raised. Anyone who might enjoy golf or would simply like to donate to the cause might participate. Marketing might include newspaper ads, flyers, radio advertisements and word of mouth.

    • 7

Assemble volunteers for the tournament. On the day of the tournament, volunteers will be necessary to coordinate participants, collect money and help with banquet plans and many other tournament details.

    • 8

Iron out the details. As the day of the tournament nears, make sure everyone understands his specific duties during the tournament. Name badges may be helpful so people recognize who the tournament organizers are.
