After editing home videos with the iMovie application on your Mac, you might want to burn your completed movie to a DVD. Using the iDVD software, which is included with all new Macs, you can design full DVD menus, then add your iMovie files and burn the entire project to a blank DVD.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Save your completed iMovie file to the "Movies" folder on your Mac hard drive.

  2. Step 2

Open the iDVD application by clicking on the icon in the Dock. Choose a name for your new DVD project.

  3. Step 3

Select a theme for your DVD menu from the list of options on the right side of the iDVD window.

  4. Step 4

Click on the "Media" button in the lower-right corner of the window, then go to the "Movies" tab. All of the video files in the "Movies" folder on your Mac hard drive will show up.

  5. Step 5

Click on the iMovie file you want to burn to a DVD and drag it into the layout of your DVD menu. This will create a button on your DVD menu layout to lead viewers to your iMovie.

  6. Step 6

Type the text you want to appear as the iMovie's button.

  7. Step 7

Insert a blank DVD-R disk into your computer and click on the circular "Burn" button at the bottom of the iDVD window. The burning process will begin, and depending on the size of your iMovie file, it could take up to an hour to complete.
