How to Make Teabags
Loose tea is available in many more varieties than bagged tea, and purists claim it has a more robust flavor as well. Unfortunately, loose tea has to be brewed in a metal tea ball, which does not work well in travel mugs. However, you can make teabags that are simple to create and reusable. These tea bags are also attractive enough to include in a gift basket with a few exotic loose teas for the tea lover in your life. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- 3-by-4-inch piece of loose, woven muslin fabric
- 12-inch-long cotton string
- Needle
- Sewing machine

Poke a hole in each of the top two corners of the fabric 1/4 inch from the edge. Thread the cotton string through the holes.

Fold the top of the fabric down over the string, and sew it closed, making a casing to hold the string.

Fold the fabric in half lengthwise with the casing seam on the outside and the string on top. Sew the bottom and side closed.

Turn the bag inside out, and tie the ends of the string together. Place loose tea inside the bag, and pull the strings to close.

Tips & Warnings
You can make a quick tea bag by placing tea in a square of cheesecloth, gathering the edges together, and tying with a string.
Do not use dyed muslin.
