Serving in a foreign war is very hard on soldiers both physically and mentally. Our troops rely on support from back home to keep their spirits up. There is no better way to keeps a soldier's morale high than becoming a Pen Pal with one. To get started, follow the simple instructions below.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Internet
  • Letter
  • Envelope
  • Postage
  1. Step 1

For starters, you will need to find a website that can set you up as a Pen Pal with a soldier. I recommend penpalsforsoldiers.org (see resources section below). This is a free service that is run by volunteers.

  2. Step 2

Once you are on the website, click on the tab entitled "where to send". A list of both male and female servicemen will come up. Next to the servicemember's name is their mailing address.

  3. Step 3

Now that you have the soldiers mailing address, you can send out your letter. In your letter, be sure to thank the soldier for his/her bravery in serving our country.

  4. Step 4

If you would like to send the soldier a care package, here is a list of the most requested items by deployed servicemembers:

    Magazines
    CDs/DVDs
    Protein Bars
    Granola Bars
    Toothpaste/Brushes
    Wet Wipes
    Eye Drops
    Soap
    Disposable Razors/Shaving Cream
    Deodorant
    Basically ANY snack food.

When sending your letter or care package, it's not necessary to include return postage. Servicemembers can send a response back to the U.S. free of charge.
