Starting a recycling program in your own home will help you contribute to end wasteful practices and leave a healthy Earth for future generations. Recycling makes you feel like you're contributing in a positive way to the world and it will help conserve the Earth’s natural resources. Recycling can also help you save money and use less energy which means more money in your pocket. Landfills are overfilled and harming the Earths environment. By reusing and recycling the products you buy, you’ll free up space in the landfills and decrease the unnecessary waste being added to our beautiful Earth.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Recycle items such as glass, plastic, paper, and aluminum. Recycling aluminum includes foil, trays, pie plates, and of course cans. Recycling plastic includes paper bags, newspapers, magazines, phone books, egg and milk cartons, food boxes, and of course your dreaded junk mail. Recycling glass includes soda and juice bottles, water containers, glass condiment containers, wine and beer containers. Lastly, don’t forget to recycle the unwanted yard waste such as concrete, dirt, and wood.

  2. Step 2

You can take computers and other electronics to electronic recycling centers and hazardous chemicals also have their own specific recycling centers.

  3. Step 3

The internet is a great place to plug in your town and look for recycling centers in your area. One such website you might find helpful is http://earth911.com.

  4. Step 4

When throwing away unwanted items, consider donating them to local charities such as the Goodwill or homeless shelters so that they can be reused. You can even get a tax write off for your unwanted goods.

  5. Step 5

Some containers you purchase can be reused and even refilled. Look for the recycling symbols on your containers with numbers between 1-7.

  6. Step 6

Purchase items that are recycled products such as paper or packaged items. The earth will thank you for it!

Tips & Warnings
  • Don’t forget to rinse out the containers you plan to recycle.
  • Consider investing in a compost and create your own garden.
  • Reuse shipping boxes and the packaging peanuts.
