Poison Ivy causes itching and pain. Poison ivy and poison oak grown all across America and Canada. The best way to avoid poison ivy rash is to avoid the plant, but since it grows everywhere, that is hard to do. Here are some tips to help you heal from a poison ivy rash. The poison ivy rash is caused by an allergic reaction to the oils in the plant.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    When you are first exposed to poison ivy, do not use hot water. Wash with cold water only as warm water will open your pores and allow more of the oil to enter your skin.

  2. Step 2

    After a few days, you can use warm water to alleviate the pain or swelling. Your rash will only be contagious as long as the oils are on your skin. Touching the raised rash will not spread it- only expousre to the oils when they are fresh from the plant are toxic.

  3. Step 3

    Try not to itch the rash. Apply warm compress if you wish. Stay out of water as that usually will increase the itching.

  4. Step 4

    The remedy jewelweed can be crushed and applied to the rash.

  5. Step 5

    Apple cider vinegar in water can be applied to the rash.

Tips & Warnings
  • It can take up to three weeks for the poison ivy rash to fully resolve.
